Breckland Council

Breckland District Council has introduced plans to hit net zero by 2035 in order to mitigate effects of the climate emergency.

Their sustainability strategy is composed of three pillars.

Firstly, they aim to reduce their own impact on the environment within the organization. They have offered carbon literacy training to members of the council to ensure there was no confusion regarding the scientific language involved with the climate emergency. They have also commissioned an external partner to look into the most effective way to decarbonize council office buildings through renewable energy sources. However, this is currently is still in the planning phase, and funding has not yet been provided to implement these changes.

Secondly, they aim to influence behavioural change from their districts using regulatory powers.

This is closely linked to the third pillar which is to enable the community to take actions for themselves by funding projects such as tree planting, delivering additional electric car charging points and providing a means for residents to recycle electric items.
